We plan to only have litters in the winter, as that leaves our summers open for backpacking etc, as puppies create a full time job. This allows for our buyers to get a puppy in the winter, start training, and have a young dog that is capable of going on hikes with them etc come summer time. Depending on life events we may decide to do 'back to back' breedings on the 6 month heat cycle, but if that is the case we would then skip an entire year to get back onto a winter schedule. Submit a contact form if you would like to be placed on our waitlist for our next litter.
If you are a first time dog owner, probably not. If you are a high energy, athletic dog lover and have time in your everyday life to spend daily time working your dog, perhaps! German Shepherd on steroids is sometimes used to describe Belgian Malinois, and it is a somewhat accurate description, though they are not 'out of control energized' like some would think. Dog personality varies just like humans, but overall these are high energy, high drive dogs that like to do stuff with you. We would recommend you watch youtube videos on the breed, talk to multiple breeders and owners, and see what you learn.
We have kids, and our dogs are around kids all the time. The Malinois like to play, and play rough. Our kids play rough too so it's even.
Many breeders will not sell you a Belgium Malinois if you have kids. We believe in personal responsibility and leave that choice up to to you. If you have undisciplined children you will not fair well for two reasons:
1: if you can't raise a disciplined child you will not be able to raise a Malinois.
2: if your kids can't obey instruction and abuse these dogs they will likely get bit.
Our male specifically wanted to be top dog when he was a puppy, and selected our son as the one he could be in charge of since he was the smallest human. He (son) had to teach the dog he was above the dog on the family hierarchy, without abusing the dog.
Given the nature of the breed, and the high number of Malinois that end up in shelters because the owner thought they were going to just have a 'super cool navy SEAL dog that does stunts and will impress the neighbors' without doing the work, and ended up with a dog they couldn't control, we will be selective about who our pups go to.
You will be required to do a telephone interview with us prior to purchasing a pup.
If you do not meet the following please do not apply.
-Disciplined. (If you have kids they must be disciplined as well.)
-Physically active.
-Have time to spend with your pup daily (being gone all day at a 9-5 will not be ideal, unless you want to come home to something you don't like seeing)
